It's always nice seeing people cover these fangames, but you're definitely the first one who went above and beyond and interviewed the brains behind it
@JomasterTheSecond3 месяца назад +32
The aesthetic of the game is just... it's *so* late-90s fangame. The MIDIs, the clunky "perfect" hitboxes, the fact the sprites are digitised action figures... I absolutely love it.

Pretty cool fangame for its time. Especially how he was only 11 when he made it.

So this wasn't a fever dream of mine! I knew it! *For years* I've had a vague childhood memory of playing a Crash fan game using photos of Resaurus figures as character sprites on my mother's old computer, but I wasn't sure if I was just imagining stuff xD Thank you so much for helping me confirm that I am not completely off my rocker, mate! Cheers!

All I can say is this video is f*cking awesome. Giving the spotlight to someone who put in all of this work as a kid and I am going to say it the game he created is probably less buggy than most modern games.

A video game made with my favourite ReSaurus figures? SIGN ME UP! Thanks for using my image at 2:33, the old collection! MUCH bigger now!
If you want to see the ReSaurus figures in a video game, look no further than The Wrath of Cortex. The ReSaurus figures, with their extra details, were definitely used as inspiration for the WoC models - just look at Dr N. Gin!
The designer at ReSaurus, Ken Lilly, mistakenly thought N. Gin's jaw was metal after his colour picker picked out a grey tone on the render he was sent by Universal (famous Render where N. Gin stands with his arms and legs splayed, and a green glow). The metal jaw was then sculpted into the figure - WoC perfectly copies that design!@EmperorDank3 месяца назад +4

That message at the end is beautiful given a time when I think many are unsure of what their future will hold also that fact you got to interview the creator was just unexcepted but so wonderful to hear. You would be surprised. I wanted Crash toys as a kid but I couldn't find them anywhere so I grabbed one of those vegetal papers, put it on top of the Twinsanity manual with the Crash, Nina, Cortex and Coco renderers, drew them, cut them, painted them and used them as "toys" like the others until the paper eventually dissipated.
I wasn't a great artist so that type of paper really helped me do some stuff back then.

Great video once again Jak, The ending definitely hit me pretty hard as I have also been struggling quite a lot with figuring things out in my own life at the moment and I can find it hard to stay motivated, so hearing you say all of that is a great refresh and motivator. I've been watching your videos for around the past 7 years and I have a lot of respect for how much you've clearly grown and matured from what I've seen in your videos. Keep up the great content! And if there's ever a fan meet-up or event that you're a part of in Melbourne it would be awesome to meet you one day!

Gonna be honest, if I played this fangame growing up, I would have been terrified (as if there wasn't enough things that scared me in my childhood for all the wrong reasons already), but regardless, it is truly wholesome to see these old fangames being passion projects for up and coming game developers, and, while they may not find success abroad, it has the unparalleled quality of it being a truly handcrafted experience, and that deserves all the respect.

As a fan from near the Phoenix games 1000 subscriber special, its been great seeing your journey with this channel. The storytelling of the video, the critique of the games, the creativity in the production and editing, and seeing it all come together and what made it happen in things like the behind the scenes videos. I always wanted to know what so many of the plot threads were leading up to: The Time Traveling Jak from Thieves in Time, the Uka Uka subconscious spirit from the Square Eyed Jak Review, the eyes/cameras everywhere with Macho Man "alllways watching..." It was all engaging and I hope someday we get a conclusion!
I think all this is also a sort of a message of being proud of where you started, as it is important to be able to reflect on your starting point to see how far you've come. Which is why although it was never officially released, I can't think of a better time to ask to showcase the original Crash Bandicoot review.
Regardless, know that you have my support no matter what, because I know you'll do your best to make quality content. Cheers, Jak.@callumsparrow43793 месяца назад
If there’s ever an Everything Ranked video for Square Eyed Jak episodes, this would easily be in the top 5 for sure, especially for the ending.
Perhaps an idea for a future video would be to cover the numerous Crash Bandicoot clones, like with the last couple Hawktobers covering THPS copy-cats and spiritual successors:
Barbie Explorer
Donald Duck: Quack Attack
Indiana Jack (2003)
Lilo & Stitch: Trouble In Paradise
M&M’s: Shell Shocked
Peter Pan: The Legend Of Neverland
Scooby Doo & The Cyber Chase
Super Magnetic Neo

Speaking of the whole Evil vs Good trope, Rayman 1(1995) had the whole "mimicking your every move" thing in the final stages, maybe the creator got his idea from that idk
@lionocyborg60303 месяца назад +2
Tomb Raider also had it the following year: unlike Rayman where you had to win a race without the doppelgänger touching you, this one was fought in a symmetrical arena and you had to trick it into immolating itself in a lava pit on one side.

Hey Jak, I've also hyperfixated on Crash since I was a kid and finding obscure content, was wondering if you've seen the interview 9Matt2 did with Crash Bash's producer Jon Williams? Something I found out from it was that there was going to be an original female character that was replaced with Rilla Roo after Mark Cerny complained about violence against female characters (though Coco is still in the game, lol)
Oh, and if you haven't yet, the original trilogy and CTR Crash modding scene can be found through Darkaiser, Airumu and Aversatrix. Would love to see a video of yours covering Crash mods someday!
