I am sure everyone has different goals for their collections.

Mine would be to have at least one coin from every current country.

What is yours?!

My current goal is to get one circulating coin from every European country. And then, get all of them. What is your goal for collecting coins? – Numista (3)

My goals change all the time.....right now I'm obsessed with collecting every coin ever put out by Rhodesia, Rhodesia and Nyasaland, Southern Rhodesia and Zimbabwe and Namibia and Botswana. Most of them are not worth much, but they look good.....
Also everything minted in 1965.....wonder why?

Soon I will get frustrated, bored, mad and stop collecting for a year or so and then I see something that peeks my interest and I'm right back into it.......maybe I should see a doctor, my kids think so....

Welcome to Numista

My goal is to keep myself busy learning about history and monetary systems. I only collect circulation coins. In my view all other coins are aimed at making money on the back of coin hoarders' hoarding obsessions. Therefore I hoard the other stuff that was produced solely for the purpose of money.

And I love to write. Not only about coins and money, but on this forum I try to stick to mostly that.

All in all collecting is pretty pointless. But the good times spent in enjoying it and learning all the history that comes with it is totally worth it.

Yeah, as soon as you try to rationalise collecting coins the magic vanishes. We are basically buying money for many times it's face value. Best not to think about it too much :)

My goal..... completion of the entire British coinage from The Acts of Union to the withdrawl of non decimal coinage. That's 1707 - 1967 in plain terms. A nice round 260 years.

Of course I won't complete it and don't know of anyone who has. I like it that way. I guess that given unlimited funds, time and storage it could be done but then what? I'd get a brief feeling of satisfaction and then I'd be without a hobby. Like finishing The Times crossword.

Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

My goal at the moment is to get a higher grade copy of all my coins that are under VF grade, while at the same time collecting anything else that comes my way that I like the look of.

It's slow going, since the beginning of the year my collection has grown by only about 20 coins, but I've managed to upgrade about 30 coins that I already had. So far my collection sits at 600 coins and about 110 that are below VF.

Main goals:
- at least 300 'countries' based on Numista website;
- all Brazil coins by year from 1889 to date;

Side goals:
- one of each type based on km# of every single circulating coin of the world;

As I am poor as duck, now I only buy coins if they follow the criteria:
- I do not have & it is cheap & pre 1950;
- Country that I do not have & cheaper than 35,00 USD

Red gold coins. I must have more red gold! So I can count it, and polish it, and count it again.

Seriously though, it used to be a coin from every country and then it evolved into a hybrid of coins by KM and coins that I like the look of. I'm especially fond of heavy coins.

My goal is to continue acquiring coins in the purview of my collection...mostly Pre 1975 silver commemoratives. My ultimate goal is a complete set of the old US half dollars 1892-1956. My daily goal is to be as excited about my most recent acquisition as my first. I derive a good amount of joy and wonderment in our hobby.

Goal? To have all 7 coins minted by Greenland. Once I have all seven then I'll focus on Hawaii or something like that.

Also to have all coin types minted during 1960. I think they're about 340 types.

I have many goals for collecting coins. Now my first goal is to reach 300 countries, then 30.000 different coins and finally 10.000 different types. But I'm also very interested in history behind the coins and technical issues. I would like to invent or create something specific, I just don't know what that is.

For me, every year of Canadian Cent in VF or better and then working my way back in history with Canadian Colonial Tokens.

Also, the Numista 300 Country Club, as this keeps me involved in the community and I can get "lost" (more?) in hours of history. This can be a dangerous and/or expensive goal if you're not carefulWhat is your goal for collecting coins? – Numista (10).

I'll never hit the 2 or 300 country clubs but since I collect British colonial coins I guess it would be nice to have one from each colony or protectorate, which can be difficult due to the fact there are quite a few which never lasted and are extremely expensive. Some
of the hardest I've found to buy are the West Indian cut and countermarked.

I'm currently focusing on adding to my English and Scottish collections. I want to get some pre-1280 Scottish coinage and expand my collection of James VI coins. I'd like to start collecting WWII emergency coinage at some point in the future and perhaps acquire some more Anglo-Gallic coins.

One day I hope to own one of these:

My current primary interests:
- every circulation type (except gold) from Japan, 1870-now
- expand coverage of late Russian Empire and early USSR circulation types
- I'd like to get this year's Tokelau's lunar rev proof, if/when the price comes down. I have the 1st 3 years from that series, but... APMex is the only dealer selling them right now (that I know of) and I don't feel like paying 3x the previous years' price.
- Keep up with any new US silver $1 and clad half-dollar commemorative releases - done until next year. Unlike some other countries *cough*Canada*cough*, the US doesn't spam the market with hundreds of NCLTS every year, so this goal is attainable.

Future goals, once the above goals are completed:
- every circulation type from USSR (not sure if I'm going to do that with the Russian Empire yet)
- every circulation type from Canada and the US from 1850 on

like a couple of others noted here, I'm collecting world wide coins from a specific year - 1969, my birth year. Just circulation coins, nothing commemorative, no FAO. I counted about 370, I received number 211 in the mail yesterday..
Also working on getting a version (then better versions) of all Canadian circulation coins..

My goal changes sometimes, but right now I have 2 main goals:

- Reach 200 different countries (have around 180 right now). I'd like to reach 300 once, but right now I don't have the money to buy many coins (poor student What is your goal for collecting coins? – Numista (17) )

- Have all different german silver coins minted between 1871 and 1919, these are 1/2 , 1, 2, 3 and 5 mark coins, and a few 20 pfennig What is your goal for collecting coins? – Numista (18) The 1/2 and 1 mark coins are suitable for my budget (you can find these for a couple of euros, at least 50% of the years and letters) but the bigger coins will get expensive What is your goal for collecting coins? – Numista (19) Especialy if you know there are a few of these of which less than 10.000 coins exist What is your goal for collecting coins? – Numista (20) But before I reach those, I have enough to collect :D
