The 45 best restaurants to try in Ocean City (2024)

The Carousel Resort Hotel & Condos is a classic waterfront property located in Ocean City, Maryland. It offers easy beach access, a patio known for live music, and an ice rink that is popular with families. The hotel also features several pools and restaurants, making it the perfect place to stay while in town.

My husband, son and daughter n law, 2 grandchildren, and I stayed there June 10 - June 13, 2023.We had a great time staying there. The whole staff, security guards, front desk were so friendly. Our rooms were clean and so much for the kids to do.My daughter n law got Guest of the Day. So fun!!I stayed there in 1980. My senior year of High School. The front desk, loved hearing my story.Perfect place to stay!Very happy!

The rooms were very old and had mold on the ceiling. Our refrigerator leaked as well. The pull out bed was barely functional so we opted to sleep all together in the beds. Even the couch was sunken in. The hotel does have a nice family feel, providing an ice rink, game room and pool area for the kids. My family sat at a restaurant for 30 minutes without any acknowledgment. Other guests received their food and newly seated guests received their drink orders and such. Also while visiting the pool area I was asked for my room key. I then noticed for the hour I was in the pool, no other guest was asked to see their card. Not one! Spoke to management and they said it’s protocol for everyone to show it but the person there is new. So the 15 (white) families that came in, she didn’t think to ask for their hotel key? One came 2 minutes after me, but the way she asked me made me pay attention to see if she asked everyone. So she forgot there as well? I was tired of talking to management and I will never visit this hotel again.

Check in was easy, room was clean when we arrived, there was even housekeeping service while we were there. Front desk employee Kay was extremely nice. We spoke with her while we were having a drink in the lounge and she was picking up food while on her break. Even though she was on a break, she wanted to know if we were enjoying our stay, if there was anything we needed, she pointed out that if we were to come back at other times of the year there were additional activities and was just a pleasure to speak with. Jessica that was bartending was so much fun and just great. The indoor pool was warm and the hot tub was great. It was nice to see an attendant there as people were letting children use the pool without their supervision and the got out of hand one evening and the attendant was quick to put a stop to it. The ladies at the coffee bar/snack stand were helpful and polite. The only thing that keeps me from giving this a full 5 star review is that we had an oceanfront room with a balcony facing the ocean (great view) but the entrance door faced the atrium. We were not told when booking that there was a large convention meeting there for Friday and Saturday and that they would be staring the meetings at 8:00 AM by speaking loudly into a microphone with people clapping an cheering at times. When we go away for a vacation we like to sleep in and this was a little early for this much noise. We were not told that our room would be this noisy. Would definitely stay here again.

There is a lot to like about this place. The pools are nice, it is steps away from the beach, the ice skating rink is nice (although it is $10 each time you go - no in and out). The restaurant food prices aren't too bad, especially for a mostly captive audience. The location is great - right across the street from the grocery store, and restaurants are nearby. But there were some areas that really needed improvement. The cleanliness was not good - there was a pair of little girl's underwear on the floor in the corner. The table on the patio was sticky - we needed to wipe it off. I shudder to think about the beds. The bathtub was rusty, there was mold on the tile and floor. The air conditioning vent was so filthy that the a/c didn't work well. The rooms surround an atrium-like area, and they turn on loud pop/dance/rap music between 8 and 9 each morning. It echoes and seems like the speakers are in the room. The size of the room was nice, and it did have a microwave and refrigerator, although the racks in the refrigerator were broken and there was substantial ice buildup. Would I stay here again? Maybe, but I would likely look for other options.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were very spacious and super clean. We opted for ocean view and it was worth it the view was awesome! The rates were so good I stopped at front desk to book because I couldn’t believe what a great value was listed online for direct oceanfront but it was accurate. The towels provided were big and fluffy. I didn’t have kids with me but so many fun things to keep them entertained yet our room was as quiet as could be. Staff super friendly and helpful. We’ll be back!

My rating is predominantly based on the ice skating experience and the arcade.. skating past couple times with a 7 and 8 year old - they thoroughly enjoyed learning how to skate using the metal walkers for balance. You pay to skate and for skate rental. About $14 or so. You can skate as long as you like and as long as you don't leave the ice area.Great little snack area too. Super helpful staff handling skate rentals and patrolling the ice.

We recently stayed here because of the ice rink. The kids loved it and had a blast. I was really worried about how clean our room would be based on the reviews, but it was fine. It was a little dated and there were definitely signs of wear and tear in the room. The only problem we encountered was that the beds were absolutely horrible. None of the 4 of us slept well. We were all literally up at 4:30 AM just talking because the beds were so uncomfortable. You could feel every spring! Although it was a neat place and the view was great, we will never stay here again just based on the worst night’s sleep ever. I would have told them at the front desk in the morning, but they didn’t ask me how my stay was. They just had a basket to throw your keys in.

This place was an awesome spot to go! The hotel offers a variety of everything for everyone! There is an ice rink in the middle and there are little restaurants around the hotel. Game rooms are as well there. The room service is awesome and the people who work there are so nice! I would highly recommend the Ocean view hotel Room! This room gave you a beautiful view of the water,a kitchenette, 2 queens and a sleeper sofa! I would definitely recommend this hotel! this place was awesome! The room service people were very nice and the room was so clean! My view of the ocean was amazing and I enjoyed everything I did at the hotel! The ice rink staff was very nice and the ice rink was so much fun! Walkers for skating is free and that pleased me a lot! Highly recommend going to this place! Thank you Carousel for our amazing stay!5/14/22Hello again Carousel Owner! I just wanted to let you guys know that I loved your place! I would also love to share another story from my trip to your hotel! We went to the Carousel 2 days before Easter. We stayed for the day of Easter and left the next day. The day of Easter there was a egg hunt that all kids could participate in from any age range. The staff were overly nice and had a great time! The rooms are very clean and the staff is very nice! The lady who worked at the front desk was a very happy and nice women. Seeing all the negative stuff people write about you guys makes me sad. This hotel is an amazing spot to stay and we are definitely coming back! Thank you Carousel for giving us a great stay!

It was a nice stay over all but I will say the kids events were rather disappointing. We choose the hotel over others for the kids extras thinking they were included but ended up paying extra on most of them. The 3 bedroom condo (2002) was nice but had some issues. AC struggled most of the week, and rooms had zero ceiling fans. None of the lights were plugged in and there were not enough outlets in the bedrooms and not enough light in the kitchen. There was mold on the bathroom ceiling. Also the beds were super uncomfortable. Also the elevators need better ventilation and ac. We tried eating at the restaurant but got frustrated and went to green turtle. They sat us and said we couldn't get the happy hour so took us there then said we would have to order and move to get buffet. It was just to complicated. Pools were nice, staff was helpful, and we overall enjoyed the stay but for the money we feel quality control lacking.

Stand Strong Armor of God — Google review

The reviews are correct that the AC is not effective. This hotel sits right on the beach and has a lot (and I mean A LOT) of amenities. One thing I can say is their outside pool seemed to always be closed. Inside pool always packed. The ice rink is great. The hotel feels clean, but also very old. My room felt, alright. Has a fridge and microwave, but they are like below walmart quality. Freezer is useless, so do not store frozen items. Bed was stiff. Shower pressure and temp ok. Parking is free. If there's no room, you can park in the garage to the left. In conclusion, if you don't care for all the amenities, find a cheaper beach front hotel.

For the age, the hotel is overall in nice shape. The rooms, however, need some TLC. The beds are not comfortable. There was, what appeared to be, mold on the ceiling near the front door. The bathrooms were very dated and unable to get very clean. Staff was very friendly. However, due to the beds and smell of mold/mildew, we booked another hotel after the first night and just used this hotel for the beach access. For the price, I expected nicer rooms. We booked a hotel just a few years old for the same cost.

The idea of the hotel is super great. They offer a lot of cool things, but my experience was awful. For starters, there were roaches in our room. The cleaning lady left our door wide open while we weren't there. Money was out, and so were our belongings. Fortunately, nothing was stolen. The game machines don't work and took credits. So we lost points. The pool was very small and unsupervised, with the only attendant looking down at her phone the entire time whilst groups of kids were acting up and doing unsafe stunts. The ice rink is super cool but was only open for about 4hrs of our weekend visit. If I could give this place negative stars I would. The bartender that's been there 4 years with super long hair ( Lisa maybe) super vulgar, loud, and rude. The entire stay was just completely horrible, really. The view was nice and the restaurant staff was great but I wouldn't stay there again if it was free. Like, roaches. Nope. I'm good.

The hotel & staff itself is very nice. I would love to give it 5 stars, but I've been here 2x in 1 month & both times we were not able to enjoy the pool or hot tub. There is no one on site in the pool area to monitor safety. Last visit we did not even attempt the hot tub area as there were far too many people & kids in it. This time we were able to get in, but many kids came in as well & were playing & swimming like you would in a pool. Constant kicking & touching adults who are trying to relax in a hot tub defeats the purpose. For safety reasons, I do not think children should be allowed in a hot tub, especially ones that are around 3 years old. The other reason for the 3 star rating is that both of my stays we requested a late check out but the cleaning crew did not adhere to this & woke us up anyway. Unfortunately we will not be staying here again.

Stayed over the Holidays (Dec 2023). Second time we've booked a trip like this. Stayed in one of the condo units. All three kids had a blast (7,9,12). Plenty to do within the resort (there were ice skating exhibitions during the day and evening two of the days we were there). We also come to see the holiday lights at the park. Highly recommend for families. Only complaint, the room did not have a DVD player. Otherwise, great value for the money. We will be back.

Stayed in a condo during off season in March. Condo was very clean, well stocked, beautiful decor. Hotel staff were wonderful. Very attentive and friendly. Ice rink was closed but we enjoyed the indoor pool, game room. Enjoyed dinner at the Reef with unique menu items. Beach access form the hotel is nice for beach walks.

We stayed in one of the hotel rooms for 4 days. It was imperative that we have a relaxing and restful vacation while celebrating our anniversary! I called a month ahead to verify that our room would have a great view. The manager promised to provide a great, clean room with view.We got there on a Sunday.. great day, but the beds are literally hard as rocks! We decided to see if we'd adjust the next day. The view was fabulous, however on Monday, the chaos began. There was construction on their outdoor pool...Loud sawing, drilling, banging, workers yelling... this was right outside of our balcony and woke us up every morning, early!! We spoke with the front desk and they offered to move us, but that would have put a lot of strain on us....we had already unpacked and have health issues that would create more stress. The noise could be heard from every floor in that area!! We declined to move, and they offered to talk with the workers on hours of operation. Tuesday and Wednesday it was the same. I understand repairs needing to be done, but they should inform their guests ahead of time so that they can make a decision on whether to stay there during the construction. The front desk said that they were unaware that there would be construction! That's a load of BS!!Room had great view...Beds are horrible...Bathroom is small...Indoor pool was very cloudy and disgusting looking...Housekeeping knocked on door every early morning even after being told that we didn't need anything...no do not not disturb sign available...other guests smoking off balconies getting into our room.Never heard back from Manager after being told we'd have a chance to discuss issues with them via phone call.We will not stay here again, unfortunately! Believe the other negative reviews and save your time and money! We did stay in a condo 4 years ago and had no trouble then, it was lovely.

We had a great time at the Carousel! We rented a very pretty 3 bedroom condo. It was clean and spacious enough for the 5 of us. Beautiful long balcony with ocean view and patio out front with a table and chairs with bay view. The hotel has easy access to the beach. They have a very nice large indoor pool and have snack bars for food options. We have stayed there before and will return when the beach is calling again.

Stayed recently in an Ocean View room that had a nice view of the ocean. Overall it was a very nice hotel. The room was located above a side street that was a little noisy but tolerable. The room was clean and modern. The service folks were friendly and helpful. The only thing we can suggest that could be improved on was the balconies were basically shared with the next room, and the people next door were a little loud. An inexpensive partition between the balconies would have been nice for a little privacy.

Beach Meister — Google review

Rooms were smelly and a little gross. They don't change your linens daily but change your towels out which was a little weird. Location is great for the beach and nearby entertainment. Outdoor bar was understaffed but had good drinks and a nice area to relax. The Starbucks downstairs... Not sure if they know what coffee is... I have no idea what I drank but it was not coffee and tasted like cardboard. Overall, overpriced and last time I'd stay there. Probably better for families with kids since there is a lot to do for kids, don't recommend if you're going as a couple.

I wanna give a shout out to the staff, especially Terry! We stayed at this property several weeks ago. I realized I was missing a bag when we arrived home. Thankfully, it was turned into the front desk. Terry made sure that my bag was returned to me with great care! They didn't even charge me for the delivery. Lots of respect for this extra level of customer service!I must also add that the recent room renovations and upgrades have been lovely. Nothing beats this location! The views from the ocean front rooms are not to be beat!

The carousel has gone wayyyy down hill. The pool was only open from 2pm to 8pm. ( eventhough there was an employee sitting in the atrium at a table before noon not doing anything). The ice rink surface was not cleaned. The lady in the gift shop was mean. The restaurant, bar, and Cafe in the atrium were closed. Room was cold. They had a portable heater in the room. Room was clean, bathroom was clean. I heard from an employee that the hotel group has brought in a couple of executives to upgrade...

I absolutely loved my experience here at this hotel. We came here for a family vacation two years ago and had an absolute blast!! It was my nephew's first family trip and now we are returning for my second nephew's first family trip!! What I personally loved about the hotel: the pools, hot tub, family-friendly activities offered, the views of both the bay on one side and the beach on the other, being directly across the street from a Food Lion provides so much convince, the overall service we received from security whenever our room key battery crapped out, outdoor bar and fire pits. The only downside was not being able to park in the handicap parking a few times. I am so excited to be returning here and I know that my family's 2nd trip here is in great hands. Great job!

Staff was great. It's obvious they are a sports family geared establishment. This was our first tournament and experience at this hotel. The rooms we're clean and well maintained. The premise could use a little update but, all in all, was fine. The price was fair for the amenities. Everything, including the restaurant, is geared for families with children. I was appreciative of that. It was a full house but the staff was great at keeping everyone's needs addressed. I would come back. For sure.

Was there for a conference. Catered food was good. Breakfast buffet was good at the restaurant. I know the hotel cant control it but there rude kids sounded like they were playing soccer in the room one night. I dont call security any more because I had trouble with troublemakers after I did that once. I got a partial ocean view because I did not plan to be in the room much but wished I would have gotten the full view because I could not see much of it and the room overlooked the block of ocean front rooms and the roof of the indoor pool. Room was clean but felt outdated and with a too bright light in the ceiling at the door. Hallway to room was small and dark and at times smelled like skunk.

Update: Owner response completely missed the point of the pool incident. Not once did I say anything about the towel guard should be trying to intervene to save the child. It was the passionless approach to berating a shocked and stunned mother to leave her towels that is the problem. NO ONE WANTS YOUR GROSS OLD TOWELS. Then had the audacity to contact security because she got upset.I stand by my original post.I'm aware that most places in OC are old but this place is a dump. Roof leaks, rooms are either frigid or sweltering. Prices are outrageous and the service is an embarrassment. The showers have drop ceilings which almost assuredly have mold in them. The shower barely functions. The ice rink while neat is essentially a pond if the temperature outside is above 50 degrees. But perhaps the most egregious issue occurred at the pool. I witnessed a woman have to dive into the pool in her clothes to save her son. She's shaking and soaking wet, her son is struggling to breath and went to leave and the staff member berated her for trying to take a towel for her shivering son. I had to give her my own towel because the hotel staff was soulless. Heartless and absolutely gutless approach by the staff. Then she had the nerve to call security about this woman who did nothing but save her son from drowning.I will never return to this place willingly.

Great hotel! This was our first time staying in Ocean City, MD and this hotel was nice and clean. It was also right on the ocean! The restaurant was good and we also enjoyed the ice rink. There are lots of great restaurants and stores within walking distance. There was plenty of parking. The only thing that could be better was the indoor pool and hot tub. The indoor pool was great but we couldn't even use the hot tub. There were so many people in it and they stayed in there for a long time. There were also lots of kids and babies playing in it. It was at capacity the entire time we were there. I was also concerned with babies and young children in hot water. (Some were not wearing swim diapers) Other than the hot tub....this was a great hotel and we would definitely stay here again!

This hotel is extremely dirty and the rooms are very basic. We had to move our room twice due to them having roaches in both rooms. Never have I ever stayed at a hotel with roaches just lounging and relaxing around the microwave and the fridge. Then the next morning the hot water was off for over 8 hours. We had to microwave cold water and use it to wash up due to them not having hot water, we only stayed here because our speech competition was held at this establishment. I would only recommend this place to another roach as they seem to be the only ones staying there comfortably. Book elsewhere

I'll start with my biggest issue. The bed was terrible. I have never been on a more uncomfortable bed. I hardly slept the 2 nights I stayed here, its as hard as a rock. The rooms weren't dirty but the carpets were old and the couch lookes like it's been through it. If the ice rink is what you want. Stay somewhere else and then come use the rink.

A large group of us came down last week and overall it was a decent experience. All together my family had 2 condos and 3 hotel rooms. The condos seemed pretty nice although the tv didn’t work in one room and they couldn’t get through to the renters to fix it. My hotel room was clean but the beds were awful. I slept horrible as did my husband. The thermostat didn’t seem to work properly and was really cold even though it was set at 74!! My mother in laws room was the opposite. It was so warm she couldn’t sleep. We actually switched rooms for the next couple nights. The staff were wonderful and offered us a pack in play when they saw we had a baby. It came right away but it had a piece of half eaten hard candy stuck on the inside.A lot of my family enjoyed the arcade and pool. The ice skating rink was closed for an event which bummed the kids out but I enjoyed watching the transformation. Those employees worked hard!!The big perks for me were the location and the price. It was close to the heart of ocean city but still on the outskirts a little. Quiet and family oriented! I also really loved that the condos and hotel rooms were in the same building and all my family could be accommodated and close to each otherIt’s not a 5 star hotel but you truly can’t beat the price. We would prob stay again when we visit ocean city!
