Picking an item can make or break a run in Risk of Rain 2. There are so many to choose from, and some are completely situational to select builds that players may never need. Knowing what to grab and what to leave behind can be hard.

Getting a build going that benefits you can be hard, and the item selection is overwhelming. Grab these items that can benefit almost any build overall, and tear through the hordes of monsters in front of you.
10 Ukulele
An AOE item that can create massive waves of damage to hordes of enemies on top of playing amazing music? Yes, please. Combine this item with a good build, and go to town on the monsters you see in front of you.
When hitting groups of enemies, there is 25% of chain lightning hitting 3 of them for 80% damage in a 20-meter minimum radius. Unfortunately, it doesn't always prompt, but when it does, the critical and chain hits can reduce waves to single digits in no time.
9 Alien Head
A hard-to-get item is the Alien Head. It is well worth the effort to acquire, though. The Alien Head will reduce the time needed between uses of skills by 25% per stack. This is on top of the original 25%.
As a rare item denoted by its red status, this rare piece doesn't have much in the way of drawbacks aside from getting it. Should gamers hunt this elusive item down, it will benefit any build they're doing, so don't pass it by.
8 Soldier's Syringe
This is a relatively common item that normally wouldn't be at the forefront of most gamers' minds. It should be though. The Soldier's Syringe is an item that will increase attack speeds by 15% per stack. Get a few stacks of this going and your character will be zooming around the area cutting enemies down before they can blink.

This is an item that helps other items. By increasing your speed, you can fire more shots as well as use other items more often. Kicking the game into high gear with this syringe will keep strong attack chains.
7 Paul's Goat Hoof
Time to prance away from damage with this item. Paul's Goat Hoof increases character movement by 14% per stack. It can also be used with an Energy Drink to compound that movement speed buff.
Getting a few stacks of Paul's Goat Hoof will push players past the normal movement speed into dizzying realms. This helps dodge telegraphed attacks while watching the animation and traveling around at supersonic speeds.
6 Ceremonial Dagger
So you have an issue where when you kill one enemy those nearby are still just coming at you. The Ceremonial Dagger is here to help all players that experience this issue. Pick one up and get ready for some fun chain attacks that can cripple waves of foes.
When an enemy is killed by the Ceremonial Dagger, 3 homing daggers are created that will hit the nearest still-living opponent. This attack is 150% damage per stack. If gamers are fighting through areas where they can get hordes down to low health but still die, this is the item they need.
5 Harvester Scythe
Everyone likes a critical hit to help whittle down opponents' health bar. Crit hits just make a grueling fight seem more manageable. Grab stacks of the Harvester Scythe for more damage during those stunning moments of extra power.
While it doesn't appear strong boosting critical hit chances by 5% and giving 2 health on those critical hits, it is still a must-have. Add it to a critical strike proc-chain and the heals just flow in. The health continues to compound in on itself with stacks, but the main ability of critical hit chances does not.
4 57 Leaf Clover
Argued about all over the community is the 57 Leaf Clover. Many think that this lucky item is the best thing a player can have, but unless you have an item that has random effects you want to be rerolled, this can be useless.

It is ridiculously strong in what it does. It will increase the times a random effect is rerolled by 1 per stack and selects the better outcome to be used. It doesn't work with every item or loot, but when it does work, it can create amazing proc-chains.
3 Lens Makers Glasses
This more basic item isn't always on someone's radar, and that means they're missing out. It is a critical chance enhancer that gives an extra 10% chance to deal double damage per hit. It even stacks all the way to 100% which can make runs like turning on god mode.
Combine this item onto a critical build and pair it with a Harvester Scythe to constantly heal. You'll be hard-pressed to go down at any point while slashing foes' health into nothingness.
2 Gesture of the Drowned
If having equipment active at all times is the right play style for you, this is the item you need. As one of the Lunar items, this shell-like piece should have a drawback. Most gamers that pick it up only see it as a blessing instead.
Gesture of the Drowned decreases the item recharge time of equipment by 50%. This also increases by 15% per stack of bloodied shells. Combine this with fuel cells, and the character could be running around feeling like all of their equipment is constantly on.
1 Tougher Times
Things on the battlefield can get rough, so it's understandable someone may need a childhood companion to help out. Tougher Times is a teddy bear-like item that can save a run in a pinch. Stack them 25 high, and let the 15% chance to block per stack help mitigate incoming damage.
While players will not be achieving 100% in avoiding damage with this item, it still has a good use. It does have a chance to block any type of damage. Reducing the incoming attack to a 0 and making this worth keeping on hand in the tougher parts of the game.
