Position Overview:

Reporting to Supervisor, Meter Shop, Quality and Maintenance Programs, you will be responsible for auditing natural gas installations including work performed by meter replacement contractors and rental water heater contractors. You will also be supporting Service Team with meter calls, rental water heater calls, and emergency calls such as odor calls and CO calls.

Responsibilities:

  • Audit natural gas installations for compliance with applicable codes (B149, Z662) and standards.
  • Support development of program to audit meter replacement and rental water heater contractor.
  • Document all identified issues during inspections, including code violations and workmanship issues, and present findings with resolutions to supervisor and contractors.
  • Prepare audit report and present it to management and other appropriate stakeholders.
  • Install, replace, maintain, and inspect gas meters and regulators.
  • Provide service and maintenance to renal water heaters.
  • Respond to emergency calls including fire, gas odors, carbon monoxide, restoration of service, etc.
  • Initiate gas appliances, perform routine appliance checks, and diagnose electrical circuit problems in gas equipment.
  • Trace, interpret and correct internal wiring of gas equipment.
  • Interpret code requirements and manufacturer’s instructions of gas appliances.
  • Issue non-compliance infractions on new and existing installations.
  • Follow and enforce all OHSA rules & regulations.
  • Resolve all issues with customers and contractors in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Perform assignments in other functional areas of the Utilities Division as required (Large Meter Group, Gas Meter Shop, etc.)
  • Participate in on-call, afternoon, and weekend shift work on a rotational basis as part of the Service team rotation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma.
  • Minimum 5 years-experience of gas service.
  • Gas Technician 2 (G2) certificate.
  • Gas Utility Technician 1 (GUT-1) certificate or ability to acquire one within 2 years.
  • Gas Pipeline Inspector (GPI) certificate or ability to acquire one within 2 years.
  • Class G driver's license in good standing.
  • Ability to read and interpret all applicable codes, including CSA Z662 and B149, as well as manufacturer’s instructions for proper installation.
  • Strong Microsoft Office software skills, particularly in using Work, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Clear and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Work on-call and shifts on a rotational basis.
  • Reside within 30 minutes of Kitchener Operations Facility for on-call purposes.
  • Must be prepared to produce a satisfactory police record check at your own cost as a condition of employment.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
