All the IMAX movie theaters in the U.S. | Digital Trends (1)

In an era when plenty of great content is available on any given streaming service, it can be tough to justify going to the movie theater as a regular experience. There are certain things, though, that movie theaters have going for them. One is the chance for a communal experience — watching a movie surrounded by strangers who may laugh or weep right along with you. Another is the sheer scale of the screens and the volume of the sound.

Those elements only get more enticing with IMAX formats, which makes the experience of seeing a movie on a large screen even more overwhelming. IMAX theaters have become a key part of the theatrical movie business, and this is a full rundown of every place in the country with an IMAX screen for you to check out.

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (June 2024)

All the IMAX movie theaters in the U.S. | Digital Trends (3)

Is it really the summer movie season if you don't have a giant killer shark film and a superhero flick? Those options may currently be absent from theaters, but they're both onNetflix. The aforementioned shark movie, Under Paris, is almost a masterpiece of unintentional comedy mixed in with some serious drama. Meanwhile, Ultraman: Rising is a new animated movie that brings back one of Japan's original superheroes with a twist.

One of Netflix's other notable arrivals, the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One, definitely has that summer movie swagger we've been looking for. The same is true for Netflix's original film Hit Man, which is still one of the most popular movies on Netflix. These are just a few of the options on the best movies on Netflix right now. And in just two weeks, they're going to be joined by Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the sequel to one of the greatest action comedies ever made.

Best new movies coming to theaters in 2024

All the IMAX movie theaters in the U.S. | Digital Trends (4)

You know things have been bad this summer when Bad Boys: Ride or Die's $56 million opening is being praised for saving the box office. That's a bit premature, but all credit to Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, and the rest of the cast and crew. Ride or Die beat its miniscule $40 million projections and it has performed very well in the week since its release. Heading into the weekend, Bad Boys: Ride or Die has made approximately $74.8 million, which is a total that Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has yet to reach domestically.

This weekend, Pixar's Inside Out 2 might be the real game changer. The early box office projections have the sequel coming in with $90 million, which would be the biggest opening of the year if the film can meet that number. Disney and Pixar executives will probably be doing cartwheels in the office if that happens. That's also something that the overall health of the box office really needs right now. We're firm believers that the best movies are usually the ones that get theatrical releases. And if people stop going to the movies, it ultimately hurts the industry.
